I read the second edition of the book titled “Surgical Treatment of Orthopaedic Trauma - A Comprehensive Text and Video Guide by James P. Stannard and Andrew H, Schmidt, published by Thieme Medical Publishers Inc., New York, USA.

The book includes 36 chapters where chapter 1 to 5 describes polytrauma patient, care of soft-tissue envelop, musculoskeletal infection associated with skeletal trauma, and acute compartment syndrome. Chapters 5, 6, and 7 discuss the evolving concepts of plate fixation and treatment strategies of complex fracture saturation such as nonunion, malunion, and geriatric patients. Four chapters dwelt on spinal injuries. Chapters 13–36 cover each region/fracture as a separate chapter.

Each chapter is written in a clear and easy to understand language. The classification of each fracture, rationale of surgical decision, and steps of operation and outcome are described with the help of line diagrams and X-rays which are of good quality and informative. The peculiarity of each fracture type is described explaining biomechanical reasons and rationale of treatment options preferred including the steps of every operative procedure. The sequential X-ray pictures have made the understanding of operative steps easy. At the end of each chapter, the tips and tricks, pearls, and pitfalls are given as bulleted paragraph. In nutshell, the students learning to practice orthopedic trauma will have a complete information available in each chapter.

It has 167 videos. Although videos were not available for review, I am sure this book will be very useful to a trainee in orthopedics and be of immense useful in all institutions who deal with skeletal trauma.
