Primary knee replacement is now a frequently performed surgery in India. The number of complex primary knee arthroplasty procedures performed is much higher than in the Western world. This is because patients tend to present at the stage of advanced deformities.

The hardcover version of this short, concise textbook has an excellent overall presentation with high-quality full color clinical and intra-operative pictures, plain radiographic images and several simple yet elegant illustrations of different surgical techniques. Overall, there are 26chapters which have been contributed by leading arthroplasty surgeons. Most chapters have been written by senior Indian surgeons with a rich experience in complex knee arthroplasty.

The initial 5chapters focus on perioperative management issues while the other chapters cover technical issues of knee arthroplasty in various deformities(varus, valgus, fixed flexion, and recurvatum deformities), stiff knee, rheumatoid arthritis, and neuropathic joints as well as in special scenarios such as TKR post high tibial osteotomy, management of bone defects, periarticular and periprosthetic fractures, computer navigation assisted TKR, revision of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty to total knee arthroplasty, extensor mechanism problems, wound breakdown, etc. Although these chapters have been contributed by different authors, the narration of the book is lucid and continuous; the editors deserve credit for successfully achieving this challenging task.

Although the format is slightly variable from chapter to chapter, each chapter has been systematically organized into an introduction and anatomic recall, preoperative planning and general considerations, surgical approach, operative technique, postoperative care, and complications. Tips and tricks for each scenario have been provided at the end of each chapter which are very useful in day-to-day practice. Diagnostic and management algorithms have been provided in most chapters which are the state-of-the-art and are backed by recent evidence-based literature.

Overall, this book is highly recommended to every surgeon having a strong interest in the field of knee arthroplasty.
