Eight patients suffering subtalar arthritis mainly as a result of fracture calcaneum, were treated by Thomas’ extra-articular subtalar arthrodesis. The technique consisted of inserting a snugly fitting, full thickness bone graft from the iliac crest into a previously prepared tunnel in the sinus tarsi, augmented by cancellous bone chips. During a course of follow-up of 6 months to 2.5 years, the results were excellent.
