Needle biopsy o various orthopaedic lesions was done by a locally made and simplified needle in 90 cases. In every case open biopsy was also done for comparison. Needle biopsy provided the diagnostic proof in 92.22 percent (83 cases) as compared to open biopsy in 90 percent (81 cases). The needle biopsy is simple, safe, economical and gives comparable results to open biopsy. The technique of taking multiple cores as practiced in this study will go long way in eliminating the inherent disadvantage of inadequacy of material.
