Forty-four patients with 45 humeral shaft fractures were managed by functional brace method. All but one fracture united. The patients achieved excellent function of the limb by the time the fracture healed. Immobilization of the adjoining joints did not appear to be a pre-requisite for fracture healing, and functional brace provided sufficient stability to the fracture site for uninterrupted osteogenesis to occur.
