The status of patellectomy in the treatment of fresh fractures of the patella is still open to discussion. Generally it is indicated for grossly comminuted fractures, compound fractures, and transverse fractures especially in the elderly. An attempts has been made in this paper to assess both the subjective and objective results after the operation with a view to evaluate the role of patellectomy in fresh fractures of patella.
